Blue/Green Belt Requirements

 

 

           A.    Basic movements

                   1.     Stance shifting, moving forwards and backwards

                   2.     Back stance high block, shift front foot forward into climbing stance and reverse center punch.

                   3.     Down block and high reverse punch

                   4.     Outside center block and reverse punch

                   5.     Inside center block and reverse punch

                   6.     Mid-section knife hand block and reverse punch

           B.  Kicks

                   1.     Front skip kick with the back foot

                   2.     Roundhouse skip kick with back foot

                   3.     Front jumping kick with the front foot

                   4.     Flying back kick

           C.    Forms

                   1.     Green belts

a.     Pyung ahn sam dan (III karate)

b.     Pyung ahn sa dan (IV karate)

c.     Palgue sam jang (III tae kwon do)

                   2.     Blue belts

a.     Pyung ahn o dan (V karate)

b.     Palgue sa jang (IV tae kwon do)

c.     Palgue o jang (V tae kwon do)

d.     Bong hyung  il chol

           D.    Prearranged drills

                   1.     Practical one-steps 1-7

                   2.     Hapkido one-steps 1-5

           E.    Sparring techniques

                   1.     Defense against skip center punch. Yield and attack, 1/2 skip back, full skip in

a.     Back hand palm pressing block, front hand high punch or palm heel jaw.

b.     Back hand palm pressing block, front arm cross and knife hand strike.

                   2.     Defense against high knife hand strike or back fist

a.     Back hand tiger’s mouth block and pull front fist to belt, upper cut punch floating rib cage.

b.     Front hand high circle block and front hand counter with punch to floating rib cage.

c.     Do not yield, attack same time.  Stretch front hand towards opponent’s face (punch same time deflecting attack to the outside), reverse punch mid-section

                   3.     Defense against low knife hand strike

a.     Front hand low circle block and front hand counter with high punch (as in Do Ju Son)

b.     Low cutting block with front hand, circle with ridge hand strike to throat, (could be take down).

                   4.     Flying knife hand, back fist and vertical punch

                   5.     From cat stance, defense against roundhouse or back spinning kick

a.     Raise front leg and skip diagonally forward landing on back foot only, block using inside forearm and front leg (knee and elbow are almost touching), step forward onto front foot and chop with the front hand.

b.     Skip diagonally forward, inside forearm and front leg block, step forward and reverse punch.

c.     Skip diagonally forward, outside forearm and front leg block, reverse punch.

d.     Outside X block: from sparring stance, hip and chest turn to outside. Weight shifts 90% to front foot with back heel up. Form X side block with front hand down.

                   6.     Defense against low and high or high and low attack: simultaneous rising block and down block, punch with either hand.

           F.    Avoiding: against back spinning or high roundhouse, turn inside to back foot (as if preparing to run away), weight goes to back foot, drop onto front knee and protect head area. Keep eyes on the opponent.

           G.    Breaking (2 boards each)

                   1.     Flying side kick (green)

                   2.     Reverse lunge punch (green)

                   3.     Skip side kick (blue)

                   4.     Skip knife hand strike (blue)

           H.    Judo side fall: drop weight low, bend knees with hands on the knees. Sweep right leg and arm to left front corner, roll down and up with a slap. Then do left side.
